Since 1959, Kent, Essex & London Wildlife Trusts have been the main conservation bodies and custodians of important wildlife areas in the Thames Gateway. Between them they manage more than 6,127 hectares of the most important wildlife sites in the south-east.
Recognising the importance of green space for wildlife and people, London, Essex and Kent Wildlife Trusts offer free access to their nature reserves for everyone. They currently manage more than 930 hectares of Nature Reserves within the Thames Gateway. Many of these are Sites of Special Scientific Interest and all are of immense importance to both people and wildlife.
The Wildlife Trusts are bridging the gap between new and existing communities through visitor centres, local membership groups and community outreach programmes, and are actively involving communities in the care of their local environment.
Kent, Essex & London Wildlife Trusts are committed to contribute to environmental excellence in Thames Gateway by working with developers to promote sustainable development; protecting, enhancing and creating biodiversity through the planning process and bringing expertise and experience to green space development and management.
